Mantra : Interview Tips
Now you got that much sought after interview letter in your hand. Here’s your opportunity to create that first and lasting impression that sees you through. Here are a few tips for that capital lettered day.
- Research
Have a perspective. Learn about the organisation and the industry it operates in. Your research should cover company’s products and/or services, financials, and industry trends. And, always have the big picture on mind.
- Preparation
▪ Read the newspaper of the day
▪ Carry a hard copy of your CV and call letter with you
▪ Have a mock interview with a friend or relative
▪ Review your resume
▪ Reach the venue before the scheduled time of your interview
- Dressing Up
Your overall appearance reflects a lot about you. Therefore how you dress and groom yourself is undoubtedly important. Don’t experiment with your dress. In India, we expect you to turn up in formals. For men, a full sleeved, preferably mono coloured shirt, formal trousers and leather shoes and for women, a salwar suit or a sari would do the trick. Remember your dress reflects your attitude. Too much of make up is a big no no !
- The Interview
Mind your body language. Sit straight with your hands rested on your lap. It reflects your eagerness and openness. Give a nice and firm handshake when you meet. Make direct eye contact with the interviewer(s). It conveys honesty and attentiveness.
▪ Be polite and articulate
▪ Be optimistic and enthusiastic
▪ We asked you a question, give it a proper thought and come out with an answer that reflects your
judgement, instead of shooting off an answer right away. If you cannot follow a certain question, request the interviewer politely to repeat the same.
▪ Use proper English and avoid slang
▪ Ask questions about the position and the organisation. It reflects your eagerness.
And at the end, thank the interviewer(s) for her/their time.
- Follow-up
You can get a business card from the interviewer. Wait for a certain days before contacting the organisation. Generally, the interviewer mentions about a period in which they will convey you the outcome. Wait until it is over.
